2025-2026 SCJ SUBMISSION OPEN!

Submissions for Salmon Creek Journal’s 27th volume is now open. Submissions will be reviewed weekly to monthly and one featured artwork will be selected as the cover of the 2026 Volume!

Each year, The Salmon Creek Journal compiles and publishes a themed literary journal highlighting the works of WSUV students, staff, and local creators in our community. We accept proses, poems, short stories, visual art, photography, digital work, and many other medium! Publishing your work looks great on a resume (and there’s nothing cooler than seeing your work in a fancy printed journal made for students like yourself).

The theme will be revealed when the final journal publish! By finding a common theme between our contributor’s work and incorporating it in the layout and design of our journal, we hope to inspire readers and creators to uplift and explore the unique creators in our area.

Guidelines:

  • Deadline is March 1st
  • Email your work to van.scj.submission@wsu.edu
    • Please include “2025-2026 Salmon Creek Journal” in the email subject, this helps us review and organize submissions!
  • Each contributor may submit 3 submissions per medium category and a max total of 9 submissions
  • Clearly state the author/artist name you would like to be known by and the title of your work. You may also include a short description/artist statement, and we will try our best to include one for every contributor as layout allows!
  • For writing and prose, please:
    • 4,000 word limit, but we are more than happy to accommodate longer short stories and discuss with our students!
    • Submit as a Word Doc (docx) file
      • This help us preserve your work’s intended layout. PDFs are also accepted if docx are unavailable
    • Review your file to make sure everything is properly formatted. We will try our best to preserve the layout choices made by each author
  • For art or visual submissions, please:
    • Submit as a PDF, PNG, or JPEG file in the highest resolution possible
    • State the artistic medium used to create your work
      • Examples: Digital painting, acrylic on canvas, and photography

By submitting your work, you grant Salmon Creek Journal the right to publish, display, use, and modify it in our marketing materials (including posters, social media posts, and other promotional materials) as well as our final printed journal, website, and blog posts.
