My hands were too soft…I had to find some special occupation, some kind of work that would not force me to turn away from the sky and the stars, that would allow me to discover the meaning of life.” – Marc Chagall

Julia Waters works for the Salmon Creek Journal with a focus on visual arts. Although she enjoys art in every form, Julia has an eye for pieces that speak not just through words, but also through images. She tirelessly devotes herself to making sure everyone on her team works together. Julia also believes that the journal itself enriches the field of arts at Washington State University Vancouver. Contributing to the diversity that art brings; it should be solidifed that the Salmon Creek Journal is an important part of our school. Julia is an integral part of making that happen.

The piece that Julia Waters chose to highlight is “Luminescent” by Rebecca Hillberg. Hillberg’s visual art piece was published in the 2015 edition of the journal. Here is the work of art and Julia’s thoughts on the piece itself.  Rebecca painted this piece using GLOW STICKS! Not only is that mega creative, she rendered the vase and flowers with skill. She then had to photograph the image in a dark room within a short span of time as the glow stick material faded quickly. I was very impressed when I saw this piece.
