Happy March, VanCougs!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their work to the Salmon Creek Journal during these past few months. The more that folks let us publish their writing and art, the more that we are likely to receive the funding we need to keep SCJ going strong.
The Salmon Creek Journal receives funding from WSU’s Services and Activities (S&A) Fee Committee. Annually, we must create a proposal detailing our goals and estimated expenses for the upcoming year. For the 2026-2027 academic year, SCJ originally requested a budget of $13,030.60. However, we ultimately received $7,007.00. The S&A Fee Committee offered several reasons for this decision, emphasizing a recommendation for “more submissions from current WSUV students.” The Committee also would like for us to measure student interest.
In other words, the Salmon Creek Journal is powered by you. Even if you don’t have any work that you’d like for us to publish, we deeply appreciate all forms of engagement with SCJ. When you check out our website, take home a physical copy of the Salmon Creek Journal, or show up to our events, you’re contributing to important data proving that people are interested in what we’re doing. From the S&A Fee Committee that grants us funding to the creators who fill each Journal with life to our loyal readers, we are grateful for all of the community members who believe in our mission. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on lately—be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming 2026 edition of the Salmon Creek Journal!
See you soon,
the Salmon Creek Journal team
